We Pulled It Off!
Now that Christmas has wound down and we are about to celebrate the new year (and our Second Anniversary!), I wanted to post pictures from The Great Holiday Surprise of 2008.
We arrived in Duluth the day before Christmas Eve to share our exciting news with my family. My parents had just gotten used to their new monikers and were about to go from being parents of four to grandparents of two in just over six months! Years ago, when they told my own grandparents that they were expecting their first child, they gave them a small doll with a note tied to her wrist announcing my arrival. Kevin found a similar doll (the amazing shopper that he is!) and we were able to recreate the same scenario. Without reading the inside of the note, my parents knew what announcement was to follow and they were instantly overjoyed.
Later that day, Austin and Alex were given a photo snow globe with two ultrasound pictures inside (one with my name and the other with Ashley's). Austin, the Biology Major, was the first to figure out that the images meant that they'd be changing diapers over summer vacation. I think the boys were most surprised because they had both wanted to be uncles before they graduated high school. Once Austin put on his cap and gown and there was no niece or nephew to speak of, the pressure was on! Needless to say, this was pretty much their Christmas miracle. Alex's Facebook status was updated within hours. On Christmas Day, Kevin's parents opened their Christmas surprise while celebrating the holidays with the Godins in Boston. Kevin wrote a note to his Mom explaining that the Grandma charm for her bracelet was a symbol for all four of her grandchildren. Thanks to YouTube (and Uncle Matt), we have the moment captured on film. It was a great Christmas for many reasons and we were very happy to finally be able to share our excitement with our friends and family.
We are so excited to be the first blog visitor to sign up. I was just lucky enough to be checking e-mail at the right time. Loved the story about how your parents told their parents and,of course, loved that you included my reaction (despite the fact that I thought it was a birthday charm). This is a great idea. We will be faithful followers. Love, G'ma Sue and G'pa Kevin
